Abstract

1427882 Oxytetracycline solutions ROSCO AS 8 Jan 1974 [11 Jan 1973] 00778/74 Heading A5B Clear stable solutions of oxytetracycline containing from 0.2% to to 10% by weight of oxytetracycline or a salt thereof, a watersoluble magnesium compound e.g. MgCl2. 6H2O, 5-50% of propylene glycol, 0.5 to 6% of polyvinylpyrrolidone, and 45-90% of water, the solution having a pH of from 7.5 to 9.5, are prepared by adding oxytetracycline to an aqueous solution containing the polyvinylpyrrolidone dissolved in a mixture of water, and propylene glycol together with a water-soluble magnesium compound, and adjusting the pH value of the solution to 7.5 to 9.5 e.g. by addition of a base such as monoethanolamine, trimethylamine or aminoethanol. The solutions may be administered parenterally, orally or locally and may also contain an antioxidant such as sodium metabisulphite or sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate.
