Abstract

1359372 1,1,2-Trimethoxyethane and ortho acetic acid methyl ester DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 30 Sept 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 45677/71 Heading C2C 1,1,2-Trimethoxyethane and o-acetic acid methyl ester are prepared by reacting 1-chloro- 2,2 - dimethoxyethane and/or 1,1 - dichloro - 2- methoxyethane with an alkali metal methylate, e.g. NaOMe in MeOH. The reaction is preferably carried out at 130-190‹ C. in the presence of an alkali metal iodide or a tertiary aliphatic amine. A mixture of 1-chloro-2,2-dimethoxyethane and 1,1-dichloro-2-methoxyethane used as reactant is preferably obtained by reacting vinyl chloride with chlorine in methanol.
