1419891 Contact assembly SIEMENS AG 28 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 15005/73 Heading H1N An electric high voltage switch hollow contact unit comprises a graphite electrode 6 which is held frictionally in a metal holder 5, one such unit being screwed into each of the opposing ends of hollow conductors 1 in the switch by threads 3, 4, to define nozzles for the flow of are extinguishing sulphur hexafluoride gas. The metal of the holder 5 may be of iron, but is preferably chosen so that its coefficient of expansion matches closely that of the graphite electrode when it may be of iron with 36% nickel, or iron with 28% nickel and 18% cobalt. The outside diameter D of the graphite electrode is 1% to 5% larger than the internal diameter d of the holder 5 when they are separate at room temperature, so that it fits tightly when they are together.
