1419766 Elastic bands for garments COURTAULDS Ltd 19 March 1973 [20 March 1972] 12863/72 Heading A3V A preformed elastic garment band intended to be fitted around the periphery of a garment opening comprises a length of elastic material 5 and a sheath of textile material 6, the longitudinal edges 7 and 9 of the textile sheath 6 overlapping each other and being secured together while the sheath of textile material is secured to the elastic material solely by stitching as at 13. The overlapping edges 7 and 9 may be secured together by adhesive 10 in a continuous ribbon or in discrete patches and a line of stitching 15 which secures the band to a garment edge portion 14 also serves to join together the edges 7 and 9 permanently. In an alternative embodiment the edges of the textile sheath are secured together and the sheath is secured to the elastic simultaneously in one line of stitching. The elastic material 5 may be a perforated rubber sheet which allows circulation of air and water vapour or it may consist of an elastic textile material. The various lines of stitching preferably comprise expansion stitches.
