1419687 Moulding tyres UNIROYAL AG 27 Feb 1973 [1 March 1972] 9528/73 Heading B5A A tyre mould of the kind including sidewall mould members 1, 2 and radially movable tread shaping segments 20 is provided with coupling means between the segments and members comprising loosely associated portions which allow the segments to move slightly axially of the mould relative the members during inward movement of the segments. Each segment may be connected by two links 17 to a vertically movable platen 14 and include T- shaped coupling member's 22, 23 loosely engaging within T-shaped slots 13, 11 in the members 1, 2. After locating a tyre carcass on the member 1 the platen 14 and member 2 are lowered until the members 23 engage within recesses 9; further downward movement of the platen causes the segments to move inwardly during which the carcass is partially inflated providing a relatively friction free association between the members and segments. A link 45, Fig. 10, for connecting a segment 40 to a platen skirt 47 is pivoted to the segment and skirt by pins 44, 50. The pin 50 engages within bearing blocks 48 in an adjustable manner to provide a lengthwise adjustment of the link. Instead of links, each segment may be connected to the upper platen 60, Fig. 13, by a bracket 73 with a pair of guide rollers constrained in cam slots 67 of two spaced members 61.
