Abstract

1,176,162. Moulding tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 18 April, 1967 [19 April, 1966], No. 16989/66. Heading B5A. A pneumatic tyre mould comprises mould halves 1a, 1b, and a number of radially slidable tread moulding segments 3 mounted on pivots 4 engaged in the lower mould half. Each pivot is secured to a radially outwardly extending lug on the segment and engages within an open-ended pair of slots 14 in a bracket 11 secured to the lower mould half. In the open position of the mould, for receiving an unvulcanized tyre, the mould halves are separated and each segment is urged radially outwardly by a lever 12 pivoted at 13 and urged outwards by a spring 10. When the mould halves are brought together to effect vulcanization of a tyre the segments are urged downwardly and radially inwardly by the interengagement of inclined outer edges of the segments with a correspondingly inclined surface 26 of the upper mould half. The segments slide on a surface 7a of the lower mould half and each is guided by a member 8 engaging within a radial slot 18 in the segment. When the vulcanized tyre is removed, after axially raising the upper mould half, the tread segments adhere to the tread and pivot upwardly and are peeled from the tread.
