Abstract

1419511 Photographic receiving material KODAK Ltd 2 Jan 1973 [7 Jan 1972 19 April 1972] 806/72 and 18245/72 Heading G2C An image-receiving material for the photographic silver salt diffusion transfer process comprises (1) a support, (2) an image-receiving layer containing (a) poly (vinyl alcohol) as a binder, (b) colloidal silica and (c) fumed silica, fumed alumina or other inert particles (e.g. TiO 2 or clay) which have a larger average diameter than the colloidal silica particles, the wt. ratio (b) + (c) : (a) being at least 9:5 and the layer having been coated at a pH of not less than 6.5, and (3) a silver precipitating agent uniformly distributed in or on the layer. A material in which layer (2) also contains sufficient hydrolysis product of tetraalkyl orthosilicate to render the layer resistant to rubbing may be used as a lithographic plate blank. This blank may comprise an underlayer which is free of silver precipitating agent, comprises colloidal silica and a polymeric latex binder and may contain a hydrolysis product and/or larger particles as in layer (2).
