Abstract
1419230 Decadienic acid esters L GIVAUDAN & CIE SA 23 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 37139/74 Heading C2C Mixtures of 2-trans-4-cis and 2-trans-4- trans isomers of the decadienoic acid esters CH 3 -CH 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 - CH = CH-CH = CH-COOR where R is a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group are prepared by treating the ester CH 3 -CH 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 - CH = C = CH-CH 2 -COOR with a base and re-esterifying if desired. Methyl, ethyl or propyl esters are preferred and the bases may be inorganic such as hydroxides or carbonates, or organic such as alcoholates or amines with acid, preferably together with a solvent. The starting ester may be prepared by reacting 1-octyn-3-ol with an orthoacetic acid trialkyl ester without isolation of the 3,4- dienoic ester.
