Abstract

1419100 Cable joint cover HERMETITE PRODUCTS Ltd 7 Nov 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 52083/72 Heading H2E To protect a cable joint by a box able to accept misalignment of the ends of the cable, box housing 1 comprising flanged semi-cylindrical-conical metal or moulded plastics shells 2, 3, identical except for filling entry 7, carries slidable end wall 10 fitted to wider end. The other end carries integral flanged semicircular recesses moulded to form circular non-adjustable cable entry 9. Wall 10 comprises halves 11, 12, each with two such recesses forming apertures 16, 17, the overhang in wall width beyond the box allowing a range of positions. Each half wall carries a projection (18, Fig. 5, not shown) towards the box and lying near the centre of the upper or lower free edge respectively, the two projections engaging any corresponding pair out of five (Fig. 2, not shown) adjacent recesses 19 in the upper and lower edges of the respective shells. Flanges of shells and wall, including those joining halves 11, 12, are clamped by metal clips 5 (and Fig. 6, not shown), with rubber or foam moisture-sealing gaskets 6, 14, 15 between the flanges, after which sealing compound is introduced through entry 7. To suit joint configurations wall 10 may carry only one or any number of apertures, and the non-adjustable aperture 9 may be replaced by one or more apertures in a second slidable wall.
