Abstract

1413650 Joint boxes BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 27 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 50250/71 Heading H2E A cable joint enclosure comprises two identical half-shells 1, 2 with flat coplanar flanges 3, 4, 5, formed from stiff plastics sheet material. Recesses 10 provide filling and if necessary venting apertures for a cold-setting exothermic resinous filling compound. The enclosure is shaped to fit closely around the cables and connections, to minimize the volume of compound and to improve rigidity. The flanges 3, 4, 5 are fixed together by adhesive tape, bolts, clips or staples. The half-shells may be supplied already fixed together at the lower edge by ultrasonic or solvent welding or by adhesive. The half-shells 1, 2 may be vacuum formed or pressed from sheets of various specified plastics.
