Abstract
1418868 Fluidised bed evaporation, drying, coating and absorbtion HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO LTD 10 Jan 1973 [15 Nov 1971] 52875/ 71 Addition to 1119514 Headings B1B, B1F and B2E [Also in Division F4] A method of treating a first material in the form of substantially dry fluidisable particles with a second chemically different material in the form of a liquid or dissolved or suspended in or formed into a slurry with a liquid, comprises the steps of producing an ordered motion of the particles of the first material within a zone of a fluidised bed, and injecting a liquid or slurry comprising the second material directly into the zone in a direction which intersects the ordered, motion of the particles so that liquid droplets collide with the particles and coat them whereby efficient evaporation of liquid therefrom, or solidification of liquid thereonto, or absorption of liquid thereinto is effected. Thus granules of caustic soda covered sand can be formed by spraying a 48% caustic soda solution using the apparatus of Specification 1304253 (B1B) under the surface of a fluidised bed of sand e.g. formed in the apparatus of Figs. 1-4 of Specification 1111097 (F4B). White oil is similarly absorbed in fullers earth. Granules of zinc chloride are formed by spraying molten zinc chloride into a fluidised bed of zinc chloride granules using the apparatus disclosed in Specification 1304253 (B1B).
