Abstract

1418828 Ventilating and heating or cooling buildings; air heating stoves MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 19 Feb 1973 8105/73 Headings F4V and F4S [Also in Divisions G1 and G3] In a central heating or cooling apparatus for supplying warmed or cooled air to a plurality of rooms A, B, C, D (Fig. 1), via respective ducts 4a to 4d using a heat exchanger (11), Fig. 10 (not shown), and blower fan (18), the temperature and volume flow rate or pressure of air in a main duct 2 are sensed and maintained constant by control of the fan speed and fuel supply to a burner, for example, when heating. Thus if a louvre 5a is closed to stop warm air supply to room A the resulting tendency for the temperature of the other rooms to rise is prevented by reducing the total flow rate and temperature of air in duct 2. Control circuit, Fig. 11.-The air flow rate in duct 2 is sensed by a pressure transducer (Figs. 6, 7, 8) comprising a diaphragm acting upon a pair of resistance strain gauges 57, 58, one of which is in tension while the other is in compression. When the load is zero both gauges have the same resistance. The gauges 57, 58 are connected in a bridge together with R70, diode 69, R71, R72. A transistor 73 senses the bridge unbalance, charging a capacitor 74 accordingly, the charging time of C74 varying inversely with the deviation in detected pressure from required pressure pre-set on R70. When C74 is sufficiently charged a UJ transistor 76 fires and triggers an SCR 66 connected in the diagonal of a diode switching bridge. The fan motor 18 is energized accordingly. The smaller the deviation, the greater the charging time of C74 and the greater the firing angle of the SCR and hence the lower the fan motor speed. The duct temperature is sensed by a P.T.O. thermistor 27 and desired temperature is pre-set on R87 both connected in a bridge with resistors 84, 85, 86. The bridge unbalance controls a transistor 88 which in turn controls a transistor 82 in series with a coil 83 of an electromagnetic valve of the burner fuel supply. Alternatively, the heat source may be an electric heater (Fig. 12, not shown).
