Abstract
1418774 Grease BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 20 March 1974 [21 March 1973] 13542/73 Heading C5F A grease composition comprises a mineral or synthetic base oil of vapour pressure below 5 x 10<SP>-8</SP> torr at 20‹ C. thickened with 15-20 wt. per cent of an intimate mixture of 70-90% oleophilic graphite and 30-10% lead, by wt. The base oil may be a paraffinic base oil of V.I. of at least 100, a viscosity at 210‹ F. of greater than 13 centistokes, a pour point below - 20‹ C. and a vapour pressure below 1 x 10<SP>-8</SP> torr at 20‹ C. A suitable synthetic base oil is an ester formed from a monobasic acid, a trihydric alcohol and a dibasic acid. The intimate mixture is prepared by grinding together graphite and lead in an organic grinding liquid.
