Abstract

1418162 Azomethines RUHRCHEMIE AG 1 Feb 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 5128/73 Heading C2C Azomethines are made by reacting a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic aldehyde with ammonia and hydrogen at a temperature of 20‹ to 200‹ C. in the presence of a Group VIII metal (e.g. Fe, Co or Ni) as catalyst. Preferably the catalyst also contains a compound of a metal of Group VIA (e.g. chromium (3) oxide) and may contain an activator (e.g. magnesium oxide or aluminium oxide). Examples describe the preparation of (1) isobutylidene-isobutylamine, (2) butylidenebutylamine, (3) 3-methylbutylidene-3-methylbutylamine, (4) 2-ethylhexenylidene-2-ethylhexenylamine, (5) isononylidene-isononylamine, (6) benzylidene-benzylamine, (7) 2-phenylpropylidene-2-phenylpropylamine.
