1417551 Displaying geophysical data SEISCOM Ltd 26 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971 10 Nov 1971 20 Dec 1971] 50199/71 52218/71 and 59167/71 Heading H4D [Also in Division G1] Values of first and second geophysical variables which are different functions of the same independent variable are displayed in combination by causing the first to modulate the area of a variable-area record trace and the second to modulate the density of either the dark or light part of the record trace. In the Fig. 2 embodiment the trace 6 is produced on photographic film by a digitallycontrolled scanned-laser-beam plotter, or by moving a film past a C.R.T. display whose beam deflection in one dimension is controlled by the first variable and whose beam intensity is modulated by the second variable, or by superimposing two photographic negatives of which one is a variable-area seismic crosssection and the other is a variable-density representation of an auxiliary variable. The first variable may be seismic reflection amplitude (as a function of time or depth) obtained by conventional processing (e.g. deconvolution, common depth point stacking and filtering) of recorded field data, or may be acoustic transit time (or velocity) as measured in boreholelogging. The second variable may be (a) RMS or interval velocity, (b) a measure of coherency between data in common depth point sets, (c) a measure of reflection coefficient, (d) a combination of b and c, (e) a measure of reflector dip transverse to a line of survey, or (f) data similar to the first variable but which has undergone different processing (or has been obtained with a different receiver spacing in the case of borehole-logging).
