Abstract
1,104,474. Recording-apparatus. FRITZ HELLIGE & CO. G.m.b.H. May 17, 1965 [May 19, 1964], No. 20651/65. Heading G1J. Apparatus for making an immediately visible record of a rapidly fluctuating variable uses a sharp and intense coherent infrared light beam 10a from a laser source 6 which is reflected by the mirror 5 of a galvanometer 4 to impinge on a record tape 7 having an opaque, heat-sensitive layer which becomes translucent under the action of heat and is a different colour from the underlying body of the tape. Precautions against the risk of the high-energy beam destroying the record tape include an optical system 11, 12 for adjusting the beam intensity. The adjustment may be made to depend automatically on the frequency or rate of change of amplitude of the variable and upon the selected driving speed of the record tape. The intensity of the beam may be adjusted directly at the source 6 or energy pumping device 6a.
