Abstract

1417428 Trisazo dyes AZIENDE COLORI NAZIONALI AFFINI ACNA SpA 16 Nov 1972 [17 Nov 1971] 53033/72 Heading C4P Novel azo dystuffs having the formula (where E is a benzene nucleus substituted by one or more substituents selected from halogen atoms or OH, NRR<SP>1</SP>, NO 2 , CN, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, C 1 -C 4 acylamino, or C 1 -C 6 alkyl groups optionally substituted by one or more OH groups and which benzene nucleus must contain at least one OH or NRR<SP>1</SP> group; R and R<SP>1</SP> are H, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, haloalkyl or cyanoalkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Z is a sulphonated aminonaphthal residue; A is a benzene nucleus optionally substituted by halogen atoms, or NO 2 , SO 3 H, or C 1 -C 3 acylamino groups; each X is halogen, C 1 -C 3 alkyl or alkoxy; and n and n<SP>1</SP> are 0, 1 or 2 and the sum of n and n<SP>1</SP> is not greater than 2) are prepared by tetra-azotizing the appropriate 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diaminobenzanilide and reacting with the compound Z-H 2 (1 mol.), then reacting the product with a diazotized aniline of formula ANH 2 , and finally reacting the diazo salt of the bisazo compound obtained with a coupling component of formula E-H. The preferred dyes are of the formula above where Z is alamino-8-naphthol-3,6-disulphonic acid radical linked at the 2 and 7 positions to the azo groups. The dyes are used for colouring leather, cotton and other cellulose fibres such as flax, regenerate cellulose, hemp and jute and natural and synthetic polyamide fibres.
