Abstract
1417008 Moulding tyres POMINI FARREL SpA 28 Nov 1972 [11 Feb 1972] 54973/72 Heading B5A A moulding and curing apparatus for tyres of large dimensions includes tyre side wall mould plates 38, 41, tread mould segments 35 urged radially by their engagement with an annular element 23, and a bladder 63 supported between a cylindrical element 45 fixed to the plate 38 and a vertically movable head 51. The head is moved by the rod 68 of a piston 67 in a cylinder 66 whereby a green tyre carcass may be supplied to the mould in surrounding relationship with the bladder, Fig. 2, by a loader 88 engaging the upper rim of the carcass. The plate 38 is raised to this loading position by the rods 77 of hydraulic motors 65 and fluid is fed to the bladder through a line 97 and passages in the element 45; the head 51 is lowered and locked to the element by latches 59. The rod 58 is then disengaged from the head 51 by removal of a fork member 74, and the mould plate 41 attached to a cover plate 30 is brought into position above the segments whereupon the rod is raised and locked to the cover by the insertion of the fork member, Fig. 5. The cover and mould assembly are lowered to the position of Fig. 6, in which the tread segments are urged radially inwardly; the rod 68 is disengaged from the cover 30 and lowered, and the cover is locked by a ring 27 to the element 23. A dome casing 82 is lowered by a crane to engage a casing 81 and is locked thereto by a ring 83. A curing fluid, e.g. high pressure steam is fed to the easing space 105 and to the bladder through tangentially arranged holes 49; from the space 105 the fluid passes through holes 108, 106 to the mould parts. In a modification the mould is in two main parts without radially movable tread segments.
