Abstract

975,644. Tyre moulding presses. McNEIL MACHINE & ENGINEERING CO. Oct. 29, 1963 [July 24, 1963], No. 42610/63. Heading B5A. A diaphragm type tyre press for radial ply tyres having a lower mould part 22, a movable upper mould part 21, and a diaphragm 73 has a tread mould in the form of segments 23. In operation, the green tyre band B is loaded over the diaphragm, the upper diaphragm ring 72 is lowered, fluid pressure is supplied to the inside of diaphragm, and the upper mould is lowered until the beads of the tyre are fully seated in the moulds, then during the final closing movement of the press, a support plate 32 and annular ring 50 move down to force the segments 23 into engagement with the tyre. After curing, during the initial opening of the press, the segments 23 are moved radially outwards so that the tread mould elements are withdrawn without deforming the still warm tyre. A screw adjustment 37 allows the position of the plate 32 to be varied. Specifications 786,347, 786,348 and 865,447 are referred to.
