Abstract

1417001 Moulding fibre-reinforced cementitious articles THYSSEN (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd 20 Feb 1973 [21 Feb 1972] 7974/72 Heading B5A Dry cement powder and fibre-reinforcement are packed into a mould 11 which is mechanically vibrated while the material is compressed by the mould cover 12. The mould is placed in a vacuum chamber 14, and air extracted from the material through mould apertures 13. Water from a tank 19 is then admitted through mould apertures 13. The vacuum and water supply are controlled by a pump 17 and valves A-E. In alternative embodiments, air is extracted and water supplied to the mould simultaneously by applying vacuum and water to respective sets of mould apertures, or by immersing the mould in a water tank while applying a vacuum. For moulding window frames, alumina and Portland cement powder includes a quicksetting agent (2-3 minutes) and are reinforced by alkaline-resistant glass fibres. The water from tank 19 includes a surface-acting flow improver.
