Abstract

1416748 Grain dryers S YAMAMOTO 26 Nov 1973 54809/73 Heading F4G Grain drying apparatus comprises a cylindrical chamber 1 having a perforated lower plate 6 through which air is blown from a supply means 7 to the grain which heaps on the plate, and an auger 12 revolvable about its own axis and about the vertical axis of the chamber 1 which gathers the grain and moves it centrally to an opening 9 where it is collected and recycled to the top of the chamber. As shown, grain is delivered to the top of the chamber 1 by a bucket conveyer 5 and tube 4 and falls on to a distributer 30 attached to a pole 33 driven by a motor 34. Bucket conveyer 5 is driven by a motor 29 which through shaft 24 and transmission wheel 26 drives a screw conveyer 10 feeding the bucket conveyer 5. Auger 12 is driven by a shaft 21 through bevel gears 20, 22, sun gear 19, planet gear 17 and gear 36, the rotation of the latter being adjustably resisted. Thus auger is thus caused to rotate around its own axis and about the vertical axis of the chamber as planet gear 17 rotates around sun gear 19, the gear-box 15 containing gears 36, 19, 17. To adjust the rotations of gear 17, according to the quantity of grain to be dried, gear 36 is provided with a shaft 37 to which a disc 39 is attached. Disc 39 rotates within a box 38 formed at the lower end of pole 33 and containing resistance materials 40, such as sand, the amount of which may be adjusted by addition or removal through a plug 42.
