Abstract

1416093 Centrifugal dryers FIVES LILLECAIL 2 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 20790/73 Heading F4G Solid particles such as sugar, are continuously dried in a centrifugal dryer comprising a rotary basket 1 provided with a screen through which the liquid phase is filtered and collected in a container 22 surrounding the basket, the particles being thrown out of one end of the basket, and gas of higher density than ambient air or else compressed air; is fed to the container 22 and basket 1 to slow down the ejected particles. The gas is fed to the container, from a compressor and accumulator via a conduit 21, the container having a cover 16 to seal it tight. The liquid phase collected in chambers 27, 28 is fed to reservoirs via conduits 29, 30 the gas being fed to the reservoirs to maintain pressure therein equivalent to that in the container. Level control devices and valves regulate the reservoir levels. The particles are fed into the basket by a volumetric pump through a flexible sleeve 25 and is ejected between the basket and container into a conical tank 15 where-it passes over a sleeve 31 and falls under gravity to be removed through an air lock 32. The basket is driven through shaft 7 and bevel gearing 3 by a motor 10.
