Abstract

1416458 Valves ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 13 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 17851/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division G3] A pressure regulator for air brake systems comprises a fine filter 6 through which compressed air from inlet 30 passes on its way via chambers 7, 34 to non-return valve 32 and outlet 33 connected to a reservoir, and a coarse filter 5 through which inlet air passes to an atmospheric outlet 2 via by-pass valve 13, 14 when the reservoir pressure exceeds a predetermined value. Fine filter 6 is an annulus of wire gauze whilst coarse filter 5 is a perforated sheet metal cap, both filters surrounding the cylindrical housing of by-pass valve 13, 14. The latter is opened when reservoir pressure communicated through passage 37 to chamber 20 causes diaphragm 21 to lift against the action of spring 28 causing the hexagonal head 23 of stem 22 to abut pilot valve member 18 so as to lift the latter off its seat 17 and simultaneously close the vent to atmosphere from bore 24 via passages in stem 22. High pressure air thus flows along bore 24 past the hexagon flats to urge piston 11 downwards, causing push rod 12 to lift by-pass valve member 13 off its seat 14 and permit inlet air to flow through coarse filter 5 and bore 31 to atmosphere. Any air contained in bore 24 when valve 17, 18 again closes can escape to atmosphere through the passages in stem 22. The regulator also includes a tyre inflating valve 9 and a connection 36, e.g. to a defrosting pump.
