Abstract

1415836 Heating garments BAXTER WOODHOUSE & TAYLOR Ltd and J C TAYLOR 23 Jan 1973 [25 Oct 1971] 49374/71 Heading A3V [Also in Divisions B7 H3 and H5] An electrically heating garment to be worn under water incorporates a fabric having electrodes 2, 4 separated by a water permeable, electrically insulating material 3, so that current passing through water in the permeable material between the electrodes generates heat. The electrodes may be woven or parallel nickel wires, metal foil or conductive rubber or plastics, outer foils being perforated to admit water to the permeable material. The permeable material may be canvas or open cell polyurethane foam. There may be two or three electrodes with one or two layers respectively of the water permeable material. An outer layer 1 may consist of closed cell Neoprene perforated as at 6 to admit water; an inner layer 5 may consist of a smooth surfaced water permeable material. Layers I and 5 may be united by welding at intervals through holes provided in layers 2, 3, 4.
