Abstract

1415711 Shock-absorbing material YOKOHAMA RUBBER CO Ltd 19 Feb 1973 [30 May 1972] 7967/73 Heading C3R A shock-absorbing material consists of a rigid foam of a thermosetting resin having an average cell size of at least 0À6 mm., a rupture strength under compression of between 1 and 15 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, an available efficiency of between 70 and 90% and a damping efficiency of between 81 and 97%, the foam disintegrating into substantially particulate matter when impacted with energy in excess of its rupture strength. The foam may be a phenolic, epoxy, urea resin or most preferably a polyurethane foam. In the manufacture of the polyurethane it is generally necessary to employ a polyether polyol of OH number not less than 350. The foams may be used in the motor industry for safety purposes.
