Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable to absorb the shock of a motorcar effectively upon collision or the like by a method wherein the energy absorbing element is constituted with a plurality of cylindrical bodies consisting of an elastic material such as plastic or the like, while the cylindrical bodies are connected each other with connecting ribs so as to keep spaces wherein the perfect buckling deformations thereof will not be interferred with each other. CONSTITUTION:The element has a plurality (6 pieces in the diagram) of cylindrical bodies 11 and the neighboring cylindrical bodies 11 are connected each other with the connecting ribs 12, 13 while a flat panel support 14 is provied at the ends of the cylindrical bodies 11. These cylindrical bodies 11, connecting ribs 12, 13 and the support 14 are preferably formed integrally by the elastic material such as rubber, plastics or the like. The lengths of the connecting ribs 12, 13, that means the spaces between neighboring cylindrical bodies 11, are preferable to have a distance wherein the cylindrical bodies will not be interferred with each other when buckling is caused in the cylindrical bodies 11 while the heights of the connecting ribs 12, 13 are preferable to be about 40% or more of the heights of the cylindrical bodies 11. Such absorbing element is formed into the configuration of a bamper or the like for the motorcar, for example, to utilize it.
