Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable to absorb the shock of a motorcar upon collision or the like effectively by a method wherein a plurality of cylindrical bodies made of an elastic material is arranged within a box body having a rigidity lower than that of the cylindrical body with predetermined spaces to constitute the energy absorbing element. CONSTITUTION:The element is constituted with a plurality (6 pieces in the diagram) of cylindrical bodies 11, made of an elastic material such as rubber, plastics or the like, and the box body 12 while the box body is made of foamed styrol, for example, having a rigidity lower than that of the cylindrical body 11. Holes 16 are provided in the box body 12 with spaces wherein the cylindrical bodies 11 can effect perfect buckling deformations without interferred with each other, while the cylindrical bodies 11 are inserted into these holes 16 and the upper and lower ends thereof are held with and fixed to the bottom wall 13 and the ceiling wall 15 of the box body 12. Such absorbing element 10 is formed into a configuration of a bamper or the like for the motorcar, for example, and the shock may be alleviated upon collision by the perfect buckling deformation of respective cylindrical bodies 11.
