Abstract

1413187 Buffers FRIED KRUPP GmbH 20 June 1973 [21 June 1972] 29309/73 Heading F2S A buffer for a crane comprises a base-plate 4, a stack of discs 1, 2, 3 of foamed plastics material (e.g. polyurethane), and a protective shell 6 enclosing the periphery of the stack and the impact face 7 of the buffer. The discs are made of closed cell foam to give the buffer a speeddependent characteristic. The disc 1 is attached to the base-plate 4, during foaming of the disc, by projections 5. Discs 2 and 3 are then stuck to the disc 1. The shell 6, of relatively rigid plastics material, is preformed as a tight fit, pulled over the discs and attached to the baseplate 4 by adhesive and/or screws 10 sunk in a flat ring 9. In the embodiments of Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown) the protective shell is attached to the base-plate by drawing the rim of the shell into an annular groove in the base-plate (Figs. 2, 3) or in the disc 1 (Fig. 4). The shell is preformed as a loose fit, and then heat-shrunk on to the discs, the rim of the shell being drawn into the groove. In Fig. 2, the shell, as it is heated, is also drawn into the annular grooves between the discs, and around projections (16) on the impact face 7 of the buffer. A skin of plastics material may be sprayed on to seal the joint between the rim of the shell and the base-plate 4 or disc 1.
