Abstract

1415537 Oxichromic compounds EASTMAN KODAK CO 8 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971 22 Nov 1972] 56692/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] The compound of the formula is prepared from 2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxy-5- methyl-phenylamine and a 2,5-substituted phenol in the presence of Na 2 CO 3 and The corresponding compound where OH is replaced by O-CO-CF 3 is prepared treating the above compound in dry tetrahydrofuran containing dry pyridine with trifluoroacetic anhydride. The corresponding compound where the carbonate groups are reduced to hydroxy groups and the iminoquinone group to aminophenol is prepared by hydrogenation at 35 lb/in.<SP>-2</SP> over Pd/C. 1-Hydroxy-4-(2-amino-4-carboxyphenoxy) - 2 - {N - 8 - [2,4 - di - t - amylphenoxy]-butyl}naphthamide is prepared by hydrogenation over Pd/C of the corresponding nitro compound. The compound of the formula is prepared from 8-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy) butylamine and 1-hydroxy-4-(-2-nitro-4-carboxyphenoxy) - 2 - naphthoyl chloride in dioxane in the presence of dimethylamine. This compound is catalytically hydrogenated at 45 lb/in.<SP>2</SP> at 25‹C. over Pd/C to give Intermediate A. To 1 equivalent of the compound of the formula in 20 x volume acetic acid containing 1 equivalent dissolved acetic acid is added 1 equivalent of granular m-chlorosulphonyl-benzoylchloride to give Intermediate B. One equivalent each of Intermediates A and B are dissolved in 20 x volume dry acetone containing 1 equivalent Na 2 CO 3 and refluxed for 16 hours to give a compound of the formula
