Abstract

1415403 Bending glass sheets LAMINO OY 29 Jan 1973 [27 Jan 1972] 4381/73 Heading C1M Apparatus for bending glass sheets comprises a heating chamber 5 with heating elements 6 in which glass sheets 2 are supported for movement therethrough by conveyer rollers 3 on axis 7 at a small angle to the horizontal so that sheets 2 lean to one side on to supporting inclined rollers (4), which may comprise freely rotating disces 9, arranged to a curvature corresponding to that required for the glass sheet 2. As shown in Fig. 2, each disc 9, which is of asbestos cement or a ceramic material, is separately supported between steel side plates (10) and bearing (11) rotating on journal (12) of a fork (13) at the end of a supporting hollow arm 14 connected to cooling air conduits 16, each arm 14 being adjustable and locked in position by devices 22. The devices 22 may be set by passing a curved metal plate through the apparatus. In a modification, more than one disc 9 may be disposed on each arm 14. As shown in Fig. 4, discs 9 are supported on a curved shaft 17 supported by spherical bearings 24, 25 in the chamber 5 and at the required curvature by supporting arms 20 and joint bearings 21 and locked by devices 22. The shaft 17 may be flexible or may be rigid, the curvature of which is varied by turning the shaft. The curved sheets 2 then pass between air jet cooling devices, and may then pass to a water cooling device and other treatment positions.
