Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a plate glass free from flaws caused by a roll and having excellent surface quality, by clamping and transferring a glass ribbon with a pair of rolls having maximum diameter at the part corresponding to the edges of the glass ribbon or thereabout. CONSTITUTION:The objective plate glass is produced by forming a glass ribbon heated at about 500-600 deg.C from molten glass and clamping and transferring the ribbon in the direction of the arrow with rolls 2, 3, 4, 5 made of a material (e.g. steel) having excellent heat-resistance, high friction coefficient to glass and low heat-conductivity. The roll has the maximum diameter at the part 6 corresponding to slightly inside of the edge of the glass ribbon 1 and has a diameter smaller than that of the part 6 by 0.2-1.0mm at the part corresponding to the center of the glass ribbon.
