Abstract
1415008 Mineral-mining machines COALINDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 25 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50160/72 Heading E1F The drive from a driving motor-containing body 1 of a mineral-mining machine to a cutter head 4 mounted on one end of an arm 5 secured at the other end to said body involves a first sealed gear box formed by the arm 5 and a gear train 16, 17, 18, 19 located within the arm and having input and output shafts 6, 26 extending through seals in the arm to be respectively connected to the motor and to the input of a second sealed gear box mounted on the arm to extend into the cutter head and have a driving connection with the head. The second gearbox is preferably a reduction gear box that may involve a two stage reduction epicyclic gear 35, 36, 37, 38. The head may be fitted with the dust suppression equipment of the referred to Specification 1336791.
