1414080 Treating polyester fibres CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 6 March 1973 [7 March 1972] 10710/73 Addition to 1301885 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] The process of the parent Specification is modified in that the ester amide applied is of general Formula I wherein R 4 and R 5 each denote a linear or branched chain, saturated aliphatic radical (5-9 C), preferably heptyl, octyl or nonyl and the treated article is dried leaving the ester amide fixed on the surface. The preferred compounds are N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-(2- caprinoyloxyethyl) - caprinamide, N - (2- hydroxypropyl) - N - (2 - caprinoyloxyethyl)- caprinamide, N - (2 - hydroxypropyl) - N - (2- capryloyloxyethyl) - caprylamide and N- 2 - (hydroxyethyl) - N - (2 - capryloyloxyethyl)- caprylamide. The shaped article of linear crystallizable polyester may be a filament, fibre, yarn, thread, knitted or woven fabric, tape, sheeting or film. The ester amides may be applied to the shaped articles by passing followed by drying at 50‹ to 150‹ C. or, in the case of filaments, during spinning by padding the spun filaments directly underneath the blowing tunnel over a pulley which is wetted with a solution or aqueous emulsion of the ester amide (which may additionally contain spinning auxiliaries, filament dressings, lubricants and emulsifiers) and then subjecting the filaments to a stretching operation. In the example, melt spun poly-(ethylene terephthalate) of RSC value 0À67 is treated with a 20% by weight solution of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-(caprinoyloxyethyl)-caprinamide in isopropanol/water (3 : 1) to give a fibre deposit of 4À2%, and stretched in one step (stretching ratio 4À34) to give a fibre deposit of 2À65%.
