Cold and heat retaining vessels.-A heat-insulated box or container for cooking without the use of fuel comprises an outer casing a and an inner lining b having a conical or flared mouth to receive a plug lid or cover e. The joint between the lining and casing is insulated, and a sheet or layer of insulating-material is placed between the plug lid and the lining. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, insulating-material h is placed at the joint between the conical mouth of the lining and the top of the outer casing, and a layer g of insulating-material is arranged between the wall c of the plug lid, which may be of metal filled with insulating-material, and the mouth c of the lining. An outer lid m with an insulating lining n may be provided, and may be fitted with a blade or other spring o to cause .the inner cover to seat properly. A pipe j with a cock l may be provided for the escape of surplus hot water, when the cooking vessels are immersed in water, or of steam. In another construction, Fig. 3, the cylindrical portion of the lining is formed with a flange b' which rests upon a cork or like ring q on a ledge c<1> of a mouth portion c soldered at c<2> to the outer casing. A loose sheet t of asbestos or other material is placed below the single insulated lid e. The lid of the cooking-vessel v may be insulated. A large casing may have two cr more inner wells for cooking-vessels, with separate lids hinged towards the middle of the casing.
