Abstract

1413773 Bolting FORGES ET BOULONNERIES D ARS S MOSELLE 4 March 1974 [2 March 1973] 9623/74 Heading F2H [Also in Division B3] To enable a driving torque to be applied to a stud 4 via a nut 1 threaded thereon, a ring 7 or annular plug 5 of synthetic material which adheres strongly to and completely fills the threads of the nut or stud over a certain axial length, provides a shoulder against which an end face of the stud or nut bears during driving, the ring 7 and plug 5 being shattered when the torque exceeds a predetermined value, as when the stud is firmly anchored in a bore. The ring or plug is preferably a filled polyester resin comprising one part of an accelerated polyester resin, two parts of silica of 200 microns grain size, one part of chalk white of 50 microns grain size, and 1-2% of benzoyle peroxide catalyst. The invention is used to rotate a stud as it is driven into a bore in a mine roof or wall, to mix a resin in the bore. When the resin has set, anchoring the stud, the nut can be fully tightened to shatter the ring or plug and to secure a support plate.
