Abstract

1412177 Data processing system SIEMENS AG 7 Feb 1973 [13 March 1972] 5769/73 Heading G4A A data processing system includes similarly constructed processing and storage units, groups of similarly constructed units being connectible in a redundant fashion whereby they perform identical operations on identical data, and comparator circuits, each comparator circuit being selectively connectible to any group of redundant units, the comparator circuits comparing data supplied by the redundant units, and, in the event of inequality, inhibiting its transfer to other units in the system. In an embodiment four processors VE1- VE4 and two stores S1, S2 are interconnected as shown. If processors VE1, VE2 are operating redundantly and VE3, VE4 independently, comparators V1, V2 are arranged as shown. If subsequently VE3, and VE4 are required to operate redundantly the comparators V1, V2 are switched so as to compare data supplied by those units. The arrangement is also applicable to higher levels of redundancy, e.g. triplicated units. When a mismatch is detected the data is not accepted, otherwise data from the higher priority one of the redundant units is accepted.
