Abstract

1411730 Separation of highly pure paracumyl phenol SOC ITALIANA RESINE SIR SpA 4 June 1974 [15 June 1973] 24764/74 Heading C2C A process for separating highly pure p-cumylphenol from high-boiling bottoms obtained in the production of phenol from cumene via cumene hydroperoxide, wherein said bottoms comprise p-cumylphenol, phenol and tarry substances as relevant components, comprises the steps of : (i) submitting said bottoms to quick vaporization at a temperature not exceeding 200‹ C., at a subatmospheric pressure with a residence time under vaporization conditions not exceeding one minute, thereby separating the phenol and p-cumylphenol as a vapour phase from a liquid phase consisting essentially of the tarry substances; (ii) condensing from the vapour phase a liquid fraction comprising as major component, p-cumylphenol; (iii) and recovering p-cumylphenol from the liquid fraction by crystallization.
