Abstract

1411448 Electro-photography; automatic control of concentration XEROX CORP 18 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 58377/72 Headings G2H and G3R The intensity of a toner image, formed by powder applied by an electrostatic developing apparatus to a latent image on a rotating photoconductive drum 10, is monitored by measurement of light passing through a transparent electrode 36. The electrode is biased to a voltage representative of the latent image, receives toner from the same magnetic brush apparatus as the latent image and, as the electrode passes a photo-sensor is illuminated from within the drum. Comparison of the response of the photo-sensor with a reference gives a measure of whether the content of toner in the toner/ carrier developer used should be adjusted, and can be made to control the addition of toner. The comparison can be repeated for each of the coloured toners applied to colour separation images, and adjustment of their various references can be made to change the colour balance of colour images produced on copy sheets 45.
