Abstract
1411424 Manual pipette MEDICAL LABORATORY AUTOMATION INC 4 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45685/72 Heading B1X A manual pipette comprises a pipette body having a permanent tip for insertion in a disposable tip member and a de-tipping member slidably mounted on the body and movable between a normal position, away from the tip, and a tip dislodging position. As shown, the tapered end of tube 10 is wedged into a disposable tip 40. The maximum engaging force is that exerted by compression spring 33 when the end of the movable sleeve 37 meets the flange of tip 40. The plunger assembly, comprising piston 21 fitted into a finger actuated cap 22, is depressed until flange 25 strikes shouder 26 expelling a volume of air from tube 10. The tip 40 is then inserted into the liquid and the plunger is released. Compression spring 24 moves the assembly to the position shown drawing a volume of liquid into the tip. After discharge, the tip is removed by holding sleeve member 30 and pushing grip 12 to compress spring 33, retracting tube 10 within sleeve 37 until the tip strikes sleeve 37 and is pushed off.
