Abstract

1411342 Omega-ureidocarboxylic acids BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 23 Feb 1973 [24 Feb 1972 11 Jan 1973] 8936/73 Heading C2C Omega-ureidocarboxylic acids are produced by reaction of an omega-lactam with urea at elevated temperature in the presence of an inert solvent, e.g. water or a C 1 to C 4 alkanol or a mixture thereof, and in the presence of a mineral acid or a strongly acid ion exchanger. Exemplified is the production of #-ureidocaproic acid, #-ureidobutyric acid and 8-ureidocaprylic acid from caprolactam, pyrrolidone-(2), and caprylolactam respectively. The starting material may also be the reaction mixture containing an omega-lactam obtained from the Beckmann rearrangement of the corresponding oxime with sulphuric acid, oleum or phosphoric acid.
