Abstract

1411186 Ice cream production APAW SA 19 Nov 1973 [20 Nov 1972] 53600/73 Heading F4H A machine for the production of ice cream comprises a mixing cylinder 1 surrounded by an evaporator 15, a tank 8 above the cylinder 1 for storing the liquid mix surrounded by an evaporator 20, and a refrigeration circuit which includes the two said evaporators, a compressor 9, a condenser 11 and an expansion valve 13. The conduits connecting the evaporators to the expansion valve, each include an interception valve 17, 22. The valve 17 is controlled by a micro-switch 18 responsive to either viscosity or the temperature of the mix in the cylinder 1; the valve 22 is controlled by a thermostat 23. A normally closed switch 24 is also included in the electric control circuit, the switch being opened whenever the microswitch 18 actuates the valve 17 into its open position. In operation of the machine, refrigerant flows through the evaporator 15 until ice cream of sufficient viscosity or temperature is formed. Microswitch 18 then energizes valve 17 to its closure position along with switch 24. If there is no requirement for refrigeration inside tank 8, the compressor 9 is stopped. However, if the thermostat 23 demands refrigeration, the valve 22 is opened and refrigerant flows through the evaporator 20. The circuit of the compressor thus operates in a substantially continuous manner, and the refrigerant is alternatively directed to either one of the evaporators.
