Abstract

1409785 Manhole covers BRICKHOUSE DUDLEY LTD 8 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 21780/72 Heading E1G A manhole cover frame for filling with concrete to form a manhole cover includes a socket housing 10 made from a metal pressing having a hole 20 in its upper surface for receiving a lifting key and having three abutting sides formed by folding along edges 14. The housing is welded to the peripheral frame 17 of the cover, the frame having reinforcement members 18 and being filled with concrete. The frame 17 has a hole 36 aligned with hole 20 for receiving a nut which engages through a further hole 35 in the manhole seating 27 into a lock nut 34. The nut 34 is held captive in parallel channels in opposed sides of a housing 30, Fig 3 (not shown) welded to the seating 27. The parts may be coated with zinc or plastics.
