Abstract

140,918. Brown, A. V. May 9, 1919. Machine cutters, sharpening in situ.-Apparatus for sharpening the knives of guillotine cutting-machines comprises two disks 1, carrying grinding-disks 18, loosely journaled on stub-axles 2 mounted in a rocking-bar 5 which forms one side of a frame 6; the bar is pivotally mounted in the ends of the frame, and the opposite side of this is formed with a slide or skate edge 7. To the rocking-bar is pivotally connected a screwed rod 9 having a hooked end 12 engaging a lug 13 on, or a hole in, the bar, the other end of the rod being positioned in a slotted extension 10 of the frame, and provision for adjustment and locking thereof being made by means of nuts 11. On the rod 9 is screwed an arm 14 rotatably carrying a handle 15. In operation, the grinding-disks are set to the required inclination by meane of the screwed rod 9 and the nuts 11, and the apparatus is then moved longitudinally of the table 8 by means of the handle, the disks being rotated by the contact of tyres 16 thereon with the table, and their flat faces grinding the blade 19.
