Abstract

1408942 Boring earth &c RITCHIES EQUIPMENT Ltd 2 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 50680/72 Heading E1F [Also in Divisions B3 and F2] A vehicle-mounted drill rig having a boom 12 carrying a drill mast (30), Fig. 1 (not shown) and drill, and driving means for the drill and vehicle, has a vehicle chassis which includes a hollow structure serving as both a load-bearing structure and a fluid reservoir. The drilling rig shown has two such hollow structures, the upper 22 serving as an hydraulic fluid reservoir, and the lower 26 serving as a reservoir for lubricating fluid. The lubricating fluid is discharged into a compressed-air supply line (34), Fig. 3 (not shown), and for this purpose the reservoir is provided with an outlet (38) controlled 'by a needle valve (32), the valve being opened in dependence on air pressure in the line (34). A rotary coupling provided with dynamic seals (74), Fig. 4 (not shown), is provided between the supply line (34) and a rotary shaft 62 on the drill driving means (60). Compressed air supplied via the line (34) is used for driving rotary and percussive drives (not shown) either down-thehole or on the mast. The compressed air may also be used for flushing drillings.
