Abstract

1408484 Can closure AMERICAN CAN CO 18 April 1973 [18 May 1972] 18735/73 Heading B8D In a metal can, wherein a throat 20 upstanding from a frusto-conical shoulder 18 of a can neck ring 13 is closed by a lever-type plug closure having an annular plug wall 34, which is upstanding from a flat or inwardly-dished flexible central panel 32 and is connected thereto by a curved portion, the radius of the curved portion is reformed from a larger radius to give increased plug wall rigidity, and the base of the plug wall at the junction A with the curved portion is of larger diameter than the box B of the throat at the throat/shoulder mergence and located therebelow. A plug skirt portion 39 may be provided with stop extensions (not shown) to overlie and abut the neck ring/can body seam 14.
