Abstract
1408381 Controlled spray drying; chemical treatment PORSELEIN-EN TEGELFABRIEK MOSA MAASTRICHT NV 11 Sept 1972 [13 Sept 1971] 42057/72 Headings BIB and B1F The invention relates to a process, and an apparatus in which the drying, possibly with simultaneous chemical treatment, of slurry, e.g. sprayed from nozzle 5 to form granular material, is controlled independently in separate drying zones 6 supplied with gas through porous wall 2 from surrounding separate gas chambers 8 by independent control by valves 10 of gas supplied to individual chambers 8 through ducts 9. The gas may be combustible gas which burns in the pores of wall 2 before passing into drying zones 6, thus providing additional radiant heat from wall 2. Wall 2 may incorporate electrical heating elements or heat exchange tubes, and may be formed from spaced tubes. Cooling air may be introduced into the lower chambers 8 instead of combustion gas. The drying gas may be selected to vary the acidity of the granular material by oxidation or reduction.
