Abstract

1408378 Hull forms Y MURATA 9 April 1974 15751/74 Heading B7A A hull for a ship comprises a pair of opposed side walls having lower portions 3 sloping relative to the vertical longitudinal centre plane of the ship X-X, and directed towards the centre plane from the full load water line 6-6, the included angle between the lower portions 3 preferably being between twelve and twenty eight degrees so as to lower the metacentre of the ship as its draft is reduced toward the low load water line 7-7 substantially to maintain the metracentric height constant with varying loads, the side walls also having upper portions 2 extending upwardly away from the full load water line 6-6 to form a protruding flared structure to provide added stability in roll and to increase the width of the deck 1. The width at the full load water line will be reduced compared to that of a conventional ship (shown in dotted lines) and this will reduce the resistance of the ship to movement.
