Cast-iron and scrap processes. - The smaller part of a charge of molten pig or scrap iron is Bessemerized and then run into a ladle together with the remainder of the charge. Additions of manganese and silicon may be made in the ladle to produce a grey iron, or the metal may be further refined in an electric furnace for the production of malleable castings.
