Abstract

1408176 Feeding webs MASCHINENFARRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 10 Nov 1972 [13 Nov 1971] 52132/72 Heading B8R A device for preventing damage to blanket cylinders 5, Fig. 1, of a printing machine having four printing units 1 ... 4, comprises a ruptured web catcher 12 including a fixed roller 14 disposed below the web 13 and a pivotable roller 15 disposed above the web, both rollers being driven at the speed of the moving web by a driven gear 22 fast with the roller 14 and intermediate gears 23, 24 meshing with the gear 22 and a gear 25 fast with the roller 15, whereby when a web rupture is detected by a detector (not shown) the latter causes an electromagnet 19 to release a pawl 18 and a spring 21 forces the roller 15 into contact with the roller 14. The rollers 14, 15 cause the ruptured web portion to be wrapped on one or the other of the rollers from which the web portion is removed by a cutting wire disposed in a longitudinal groove of the roller surfaces. One or both of the rollers may be covered with a rubber sleeve. The roller 15 is reset by an eccentric 26 actuated by a handle 27 or by a pneumatic piston rod (not shown).
