Abstract

140,792. Landis & Gyr Akt.-Ges. March 25, 1919, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Turning-gear.-Epicyclic gearing is combined with a ratchet clutch N and a detent M so that a shaft D may drive a shaft A at reduced speed, or the shaft A may drive the whole device solid. The device may be applied to start an internalcombustion engine from the shaft D of an electric motor, or may be used as a hand starting-gear. Planet gears G<1>, G<2> supported between a disk B secured to the shaft A and a disk F loose on the shaft D mesh with a sun gear J upon the shaft D and with a loose internally-toothed ring H. The clutch N prevents the ring H from turning faster than the disk F, and the detent M prevents the ring H from turning backwards. When the shaft D starts to drive, the gears G<1>, G<2> roll round on the ring H, which is fixed, and drive the shaft A. When the shaft A begins to drive, the ring H springs forward and engages the clutch N, and the gearing turns solid. The clutch N is a ball friction clutch. The detent M acts positively as shown in Fig. 2. When overrunning, the balls M are thrown by centrifugal action into pockets N' in the ring H.
